So it's been almost 2 weeks since I went into my bathroom and cut my hair. Still no regrets. Loving my short natural hair and I'm rocking my curls. I don't really know what came over me...but I'm glad it did.
No more transitioning
Transitioning requires a lot of patience and I just couldn't do it. 6 months was more than enough time for me. The main problem I had with transitioning was that I couldn't get the moisture balance right. The roots needed so much and the ends really didn't. If you're transitioning, the roots have to be the priority, and the health and condition of your hair are more important than the way it looks (not that healthy hair isn't just as important if you're natural). My tips were always greasy and if they weren't it meant my roots were dry. The kinky twist really helped and I loved them so I'll probably do them again this summer.
I don't know how many people read/follow this blog, but to any transitioners who were, I'm sorry. I wish you all the best on your 'hair journey' but the transitioning part of mine has ended. I actually made a load of videos before I cut my hair. I didn't realise there were that many soooo I will be sure to put them up in the gallery and I'll probably still write about transitioning from time to time. The one good thing about transitioning for me, was the time it gave me to prepare for going completely natural. Although as it turns out even that wasn't really as big a deal as I thought it would be. You'd think cutting all of my hair off would be this really emotional experience but it wasn't. It was kind of liberating (sorry to sound cliché). I felt relieved, and excited. The fear before hand when I was actually contemplating cutting it was overwhelming, I can't lie. But once I started, it was like... well... like I'd been holding my breath for the past 6 months and finally I could exhale...
I've never felt as confident and good about myself and my image as I have since I cut my hair. I didn't really understand what girls meant when they said that but for me, it's definitely the case. So for anyone out there considering going natural, all I want to say is don't feel pressured to, and don't be afraid. There's really nothing to it. You've seen the pictures of how long my hair was before. It's all gone now and I have no regrets....
I'll post a video of the 'Big Chop' and any other relevant videos today hopefully. I've also got a youtube channel so feel free to check that out [ http://www.youtube.com/user/chocolate7026 ]. Like I've said before, I'm NOT an expert, all this is for me is a way of documenting what I'm doing and sharing my experiences with whoever cares to read/watch.
For those of you with relaxed hair, feel free to ask questions, and I may still put posts up about relaxed hair from time to time.
That's all folks x
